<3
This is my dog and I.
She’s a toy sized, pug.
Her name is Angel.
I’ve had her since I began the 4th grade.
Now, I’m a freshman in college.
This past spring we took her for an annual check up.
We had noticed a small bump around her ear.
The Vet preformed a small biopsy.
Weeks passed and the test results arrived.
I remember sitting in the cold office, holding my dog.
The vet looked me in the eyes, and proclaimed she had cancer.
Still, having hope, my mother and I took her every two weeks for steroid shots.
Around May, we had to have her left ear ear amputated.
All of my friend laughed, people stared.
But she was mine. and I loved her.
July came around.
She wasn’t doing any better.
She had been laying around the house lately.
She wasn’t acting her rambunctious self.
A few weeks later we decided to take her to the clinic.
I was just thinking we could buy her another shot.
Just to make her feel better for the time being.
I walked in with a big smile on my face, holding my Angel in my arms.
My mother and I asked the vet for another shot.
The vet. looked over her and sighed.
He then, proceeded to explain how selfish I was for keeping her alive.
How horrible of a person I was for making her live though this.
The moment those words passed his lips I was horrified.
I dropped down into my seat.
I couldn’t breathe.
I would have rather died than to have my Angel put down.
I couldn’t believe what was happening.
After what seemed hours, I decided not to be such a horrible person.
I recited my last words to her.
Then I left.
Ran out of this clinic in a hysterical fit of rage.
That was the last time I could touch her, smell her, & kiss her.
My Angel was no longer mine.
She was god’s.
She was a real Angel.
And I’m sure she looks down on me every day.
Cancer is effecting everyone.
In one shape or form.
Please help find a cure.
